Like I said, we got a tour of the campus and got some administrative stuff out of the way. Then we had a lovely lunch of steak frites (steak, french fries and salad). After lunch we rode the extremely high-tech and clean tram to the Universitie's campus, where we got a tour of the CUEF, which is the international students building. The campus is gorgeous, with lovely views of the mountains and lots of big, open areas. The buildings are all a little ugly, because it was built in the 70's, but the landscape totally makes up for it.
After we got back from the tour, we had some time to wander around before the families got here (of course, Sam and I had a little bit more time because, you know, our family decided to stay in the south of France for one more day, rather than meet us. Pssh. Why would anyone want to do that?) so we went to the local park, which is gorgeous, and has free WiFi. Here is a picture of Sam on the computer using said free WiFi (pronounced wee-fee here).
We then went back to the hotel, where we met up with the assistant program coordinator, who is a grad student/teaching fellow at BU, and she took us out to dinner at this great little "italian" restaurant, where we shared a bottle of wine and ate this delectable pasta. The power flickered on and off a few times, which was semi-alarming, but the natives seemed not to notice. The really strange thing about eating here is it takes approximately two hours to eat. We arrived at this restaurant at around 19.45 (ha! figure that out, you Americans!) and only left around 21:45. The service is very slow and it's hard to just relax and not think about the things you want to go out and do afterwards. It will be very interesting to get used to.
After dinner, Sam and I walked back to the Place Grenette, where we got some glace chocolate and walked around for a little bit. Then we came back to the hotel and hung out, sitting on our balconies and reading for a bit. It was very nice. Tomorrow we're getting up, going down to the continental breakfast and then Mary is picking us up around 10.00. And then later on we'll meet our adoptive parents! And chien! We're really excited.
Here is a picture of the Place Grenette from our hotel balcony.
P.S. I know there are issues with pictures/videos uploading. The internet is sketchy here, so hopefully when we are settled in with our families tomorrow, things will be a bit more secure.
